OmniControl for Mac OS X

 

Installation:

 

Just drag the OmniControl application icon from the disk image to your Applications folder.

 

 

 

Preferences:

 


VPedal Preferences can be accessed from the Dock Menu by clicking and holding on the VPedal dock icon, or via the menu bar under the VPedal menu.

 


The preferences window allows options to be modified for the control of the QuickTime Player, iTunes, or Other applications.

 

At the top of the Preferences panel is a popup button showing the application currently set to be controlled by the VPedal.

 

    

                                               

 

Below this popup button is a box with 3 tabs labelled 'QuickTime', 'iTunes', and 'Other'.

 

QuickTime Player options:

a) Pause Back Time

b) Rewind Speed

c) Fast Forward Speed

d) Play Speed

 

      

                                               

 

 

 

Other options

 

The Other tab lets you set any application to be controlled by the VPedal. The VPedal software controls other applications by using their keyboard shortcuts. You can determine the keyboard shortcuts for an application by looking at :

1) the Help associated with the application

2) the menus of the application

 

To add an application to the list press the 'Add...' button to browse for and select the application. The selected application will then appear in the Applications.

 

    


                                     

 

 


Select the tab box of one of the VPedal buttons (eg 'Rewind') to be assigned a keyboard shortcut. Either select a 'Special Key' from the 'Special Key' popup or enter a character in the 'Keystroke' text field and then check any required modifier keys.

 

 

Example - DVD Player

 

To control the DVD Player application:

 

1) Using the 'VPedal controls:' popup list, select 'Other'

 

2) Select the  'Add...' button. Navigate to the /Applications folder and select the DVD Player application. It should now be listed in the Applications popup list to the left of the 'Add...' button.

 

3) From the 'Keyboard Shortcuts' help of the DVD Player application:

            Play/Pause using Spacebar,

            Scan Backward (rewind) using Cmd-Left Arrow, and

            Scan Forward using Cmd-Right Arrow.

 

4) Select  the 'Rewind' tab.

 

            Select 'Arrow Left' from the Special Keys popup.

            Select the 'Cmd' key Key Modifier check box.

 

5) Select the 'Play' tab.

 

            Select 'Space' from the Special Keys popup.

 

6) Select  the 'Fast-Forward' tab.

 

            Select 'Arrow Right' from the Special Keys popup.

            Select the 'Cmd' Key Modifier check box.

 

You should now be able to play and pause the DVD Player application by depressing the centre VPedal play button and scan backwards or forwards using the rewind and fast-forward VPedal buttons.
