vPedal Care and Maintenance tip

It has come to our attention that after 6 months or so of use, the to screws indicated in the image below can become loose -causing them to drop out, and possibly being lost.

To avoid this occurrence Vpedal recommend that you either

  • Tighten the screws every month or so dependant upon usage
  • Use a small drop of Metal glue / Locktite, to glue the screws in place so that they can't drop out
  • Place a band of cellotape across the holes so that if the screws drop out they will be caught by the tape so that the screws can be returned and fixed back into position.
  • Note: actions have been taken at the factory so that this is less on an issue in the future.

What is a Games Port?

An old style Sound card

The games port is usually part of your sound card it is a D shaped connector with 15 sockets ( shown above below the red writing)

A new type "Built in" Sound Card

For easy installation we would recommend purchasing a Games port Version of a Vpedal over a USB Version ( its cheaper too)

USB Vpedal & NT4:

Because of the lack of support in the Operating system for USB devices. The USB Version of the Vpedal will not work with NT4 Workstation or NT4 Server.

The Games port versions of the Pedal will still operate.

No Games Port?

There are several options available

1. Use the USB version of the Vpedal.

("Please Keep in mind the exceptions listed above")

2. Install a Games Port Card

3. Purchase a USB to Games Port converter.

(Suitable for laptop usage if you are using NT4 Wkstation)

Installation note

Vpedal USB / Games Port & NT4 - WinXP

If you are using NT4 Workstation, XP Professional or XP Home Edition then you have to be logged in with administrator rights on your pc.
You can check & change your rights by going to the "Control panel" then choosing the Users Accounts icon.
Then choosing the name that you log in as & then check to see if you have administrator rights.
To give yourself admin rights you click on "change my account type".

Also if you installed programmes without admin rights there is a good chance that they won't work.

Common problems with e-mail's:

Be aware of the size of the file you are sending. Most ISP's ( Internet Service Providers ) enforce a 10 megabyte limit on attachments to Emails ( It is even less with the free Email Browser based Mail services such as Hotmail YahooMail etc.)

There are few ways around this issue:

(i.) create multiple files to contain the full dictation. Then send them in separate e-mails

or

(ii.) Install a FTP ( File Transfer Protocol) client software on both your Transmitting and Receiving computers. (Ask your IT person about this one, it's a little more complex but it is worth it if you intend to send many long dictation files)

(iii.) Get a real Email address from your ISP if possible.
